Sissone is a collection inspired by the strength and fragility of classical ballet, as this has always been one of my favorite art forms. A name taken from ballet terminology, “sissone” is a type of scissor kick in which a dancer leaps up from fifth position, travels to the front or side while extending one leg, and gently lands in fifth once more.
I am especially drawn to the contrast of the effortless, flowing nature of the dancers’ choreography and body movements compared with their physical strength and their challenging performances. My color palette is inspired by traditional colors found in ballet costumes and the fabrics in my collection are elegant and feminine. These material choices, combined with strong seaming and design details, explore the strength and fragility of my inspiration.
